| Anübis was created by José (Maky) and Dani in Pizarra, Malaga Province, in 2002. They both laid the foundations of the new musical project, which is still going strong.
Not until 2003 did Anübis reach its full complement. After a few months of composition, their first tracks began to emerge. "Juego Infernal" (Infernal Game), "Ayer y hoy" (Yesterday and Today), "Tela de Araña" (Spider’s Web) and, a little better known to followers of the band, "Al otro lado" (On the Other Side). This last track was chosen for the studio debut and recorded as a single. The result was not as hoped for. The quality of the recording left a lot to be desired.
Following this blow and new changes to the line-up, in 2004 Anübis were back in the studio, this time ECOSON's in Campanillas (Malaga) under the direction of Paco Yáñez, giving rise to the EP "Desterrado al abismo" (Exiled to the Abyss), an excellent result in terms of sound quality and quite acceptable in terms of song quality. After recording "Desterrado al abismo", Anübis began its journey around the stages of Málaga Province. The memory lives on of gigs like the first Metal Sun Festival in May 2004, where they played alongside bands like Templario, Centinela and Málaga's Inxight. Also worthy of note was the band's role as finalist in the Mystic Music Festival in July the same year, from which a compilation CD was created with the other finalists.
After all these gigs to promote the record and just as it was about to be edited for official release, there was another sudden change to the line-up. Anübis was again left in the lurch, with no lead singer and a record hanging in the air which it had no way of promoting.
Anübis then went through a period of about a year with no concerts, for lack of a vocalist. But the band did not waste that time and it was then, between July 2004 and June 2005, that Anübis focused more on composing new tracks. During that time Juan Cortés also appeared on stage, providing keyboard backing to the older and newer tracks and giving a fresh boost to the sound of Anübis, whose style was already starting to move on from its beginnings.
In March 2005 Jaime appeared, taking on the role of Anübis's vocalist. This was a turning-point for the band, because Anübis has kept the same line-up ever since. Jaime fell in with the group straight away and the gigs began to come thick and fast: 14 between mid-2005 and the end of 2006, some of them important ones like the Pizarra festival in 2005, where they played alongside Barricada and Saratoga, and the Heavy Metal Festival for India at Málaga's Sala Vivero, alongside Twilight. Malagart Productions made a DVD of the last of these Anübis concerts.
Between December 2005 and January 2006, Anübis returned to the ECOSON studios to revisit the work recorded a year earlier and overlay it with Jaime's new voice and Juan's keyboard, achieving an unparalleled result, bearing in mind that they were incorporating a voice not intended for the tracks and a keyboard sound not envisaged at the time of composition. This time, finally, Anübis edited the disc, entitled "Al Otro Lado" (On the Other Side), produced by themselves and under the PSM Records label, with a run of 1,000 copies. With its striking sleeve design by Paco "Púas" ("Perversion", "Dick Turpin", formerly "Draconian"), the disc was released by Anübis and needs only a distributor to reach a wider audience. For the moment it can be purchased at the gigs and via Anübis's official website.
In 2008, Anübis went to the ADN studios in Fuengirola to record two tracks, "Lobo" (Wolf) and "Es por tí" (It's Because of You), recorded and produced by Anübis and mixed by José in the ADN studios. The resulting disc was made available to the public in March 2008, along with another three tracks recorded by the band itself with its own resources, in addition to a self-produced video of the track "Es por tí".
In October 2009 the band suffered another, very serious setback: the two guitarists, keyboard player and lead singer all left the band at once, leaving only the foundation - bass and drums. Rafa and José (Maky) again faced the difficult task of rebuilding the group, which took three months auditioning and recruiting possible members who could maintain and improve what the band had taken a long time to achieve. We would like to thank all those who attended the auditions but did not finally gain a place in the band.
In January 2010 Anübis was restored, with Miguel Angel and Manolo as its new guitarists and Sergio as the new, powerful and high-quality lead singer. For the time being the band will have no keyboard player: we want to go back to the group's original sound from years ago, but with new blood. Hard work is under way to improve and consolidate the long career of a band that stands the test of time.
We would like to pay tribute to you, who are reading this and supporting us, and to all those musicians who have been members of Anübis over the years and played their role in ensuring we are still here - in spite of so many changes of line-up - full of excitement and strength, just as on the very first day.
